History of the SEPA Chapter
In June of 1987, a spark was
ignited and the idea of forming
an APA Chapter in the
Bucks/Montgomery county areas of
Pennsylvania came to light.
The first Executive Planning
Committee meeting was held in
September 1987 at a local
restaurant in Montgomeryville,
Pennsylvania. A decision was
made to send surveys to area
payroll professionals to
determine the level of interest
in forming a local chapter. The
response was overwhelming and
the chapter, originally known as
the Bux-Mont Area Chapter was
formed.
The first official meeting was
held in the cafeteria of an
employer of one of the members.
Twelve people were in
attendance, committees were
appointed and a round-table
discussion was held. The first
group of Board Members was
nominated and officially elected
at the next meeting. Members’
employers hosted the meeting at
their company office sites.
Company sites rotated until May
1990, at which time the first
dinner meeting was held at a
restaurant in King of Prussia,
Pennsylvania. In an effort to
more accurately reflect the
membership area served, the Bux-Mont
Chapter was renamed the
Southeastern Pennsylvania
Chapter of the APA.
During its first decade, the
SEPA Chapter has had the
opportunity of hosting several
Pennsylvania Statewide
Conferences. As the chapter
enters their second decade,
which brought us into the new
millennium and beyond, we look
forward to continued success and
recognize that our success is
only possible with your support!
