2005 Pennsylvania Payroll Professional of the Year

The Pennsylvania Payroll Professional of the Year award is presented each year at the annual PA Statewide Payroll Conference to recognize an outstanding payroll professional within our state.  Congratulations to Ken Krum CPP, the 2005 Pennsylvania Payroll Professional of the Year!

Each of the four PA Chapters of the APA submitted a nominee for this award.  Nominees were then reviewed based upon their involvement at the chapter level (60%), national level (10%), job level (20%) and community level (10%).  All of the nominees are outstanding payroll professionals and are to be commended for their service to their profession, their company and their community.

Ken Krum CPP was the nominee from the Lehigh Valley Chapter.  He is one of the founding members of that chapter and has been instrumental in getting the chapter up and running so quickly.  Previously, Ken served in numerous officer and committee positions for the SEPA chapter.  He was chairperson for the 2001 PA Statewide Conference and has taught Paytrain and PPLS classes at local colleges.  Ken currently serves on the National Speakers Bureau, Certification Board, PayTrain Leaning System, Job Task Analysis, Government Affairs Task Force, and Hotline Referral areas and previously served on the Board of Advisors.  Over the years Ken has volunteered his time and skills for the Habitat for Humanity projects, Philadelphia Aids Walk, and various food drives.

The Southeastern PA Chapter nominated Raeann Hofkin CPP.  She has been a member of SEPA since 1999.  During this time Raeann has served as study group facilitator and coordinator; member of the NPW, PA Statewide Conference and Community Outreach committees; newsletter editor; and chapter vice president and president.  Raeann is a member of APA’s Hotline Referral Committee, has taught the PPLS at a local community college, contributed articles for “Paytech” magazine and “Keep Up To Date on Payroll” newsletter, and was recently asked to join the board of advisors for the “Payroll Manager’s Report”.  She has been instrumental in the development and continuing coordination of the internet CPP study group.  Raeann is an active volunteer for her local preservation society and coordinates charitable events for her employer and the PTA, as well as being a certified soccer coach.

Heide Daugherty CPP, was nominated by the Susquehanna Valley Chapter.  She has been an APA member since 1999 and a member of the Susquehanna Valley Chapter since 2000.  Heide’s contributions to her chapter include roles as study group facilitator, co-developer of the chapter website, member of the Earned Income Tax Reform committee, various PA Statewide Conference committees and chapter president.  Heide is also a member of the American Business Member’s Association, the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers, and is on the Advisory Council of the Continuing Education and Distance Learning Center.  She also participates in Crohn’s & Colitis, Diabetes, and Heart Walks, sponsors two children in and orphanage and was a CHAMPS volunteer for 2005.  Heide has also been honored with a Presidential Award and a Volunteer Service Award.

The nominee from the Western PA Chapter was Flo Wilmot-Burner.  Flo has been a member of the Western PA Chapter for several years.  She has served her chapter as Corresponding Secretary, website developer and maintainer, and PA Statewide Conference committee member.  Flo has acted as Administrator for several APA nationally sponsored seminars in the Pittsburgh area and has represented the Western PA Chapter at these seminars.  She attended a Leadership Seminar in June 2005 at APA’s training center in San Antonio on her own time to learn ways to develop and improve her chapter.  Currently, Flo is working on chapter initiatives to not only spread word of the chapter through the community, but also to help needy organizations through 50/50 raffles, business clothing drives and soup kitchen donations.

Congratulations to all of these nominees!  They are true Payroll Professionals.
