SEPA Presents:

Employees vs. Independent Contractors

Employees who are misclassified as independent contractors do not have employment taxes withheld and this could cost tax payers more than $131 million in Social Security and Medicare taxes over five years.

As the Department of Labor and the IRS begin to step up enforcement of employee classification, it is more important than ever to make sure your workers are properly classified.

Mike Neely, of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry will be joining us to speak on this important and timely topic.  Mike had been with the PA DoL for for over thirty years and is currently the Unemployment Compensation Tax Regional Director for six Unemployment Compensation Tax Offices in four suburban counties outside of Philadelphia.

Mike is part of the Department's Speakers Bureau and has made presentations to the Pennsylvania Society of Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue's Fall Tax Seminars, the Bucks County Small Business Tax Forum and the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

We will serve a roasted chicken dinner, coffee and dessert.  If you have special dietary needs, please contact Sharon at vicepresident@sepaapa.org.
